New CEO to Lead Trinity Health System

Catholic Health Initiatives and the board of directors of CHI Trinity Health System have named Matt Grimshaw as market chief executive officer of the CHI Trinity system.  Grimshaw will join CHI Trinity on July 31, 2017.

            Currently, Grimshaw, 42, is west region president of CHI St. Alexius Health, Williston, ND, where he is responsible for four critical access hospitals and five clinic locations across western North Dakota. They are all part of CHI St. Alexius Health, a regional health system with seven hospitals and multiple clinics serving central and western North Dakota, northern South Dakota, and eastern Montana.

            Larry Schumacher, senior vice president of operations for Catholic Health Initiatives, said the CHI Trinity board of directors made an excellent choice in appointing Grimshaw as market CEO. “Matt has a proven record of leadership, a solid health care operations background and accomplishments in a variety of complex settings. We are confident that Matt has the experience and ability to lead CHI Trinity to new heights of service and performance as he builds relationships with our management team, the medical staff, employees, volunteers and the community,” Schumacher said.

Mark Morelli, chair of the CHI Trinity board, said Grimshaw was the board’s candidate of choice. “One of the things that impressed us most about Matt is his extensive experience in working with physicians and specialty medical practices as well as a wide variety of clinical service lines. We believe that from his first day on, Matt will build upon Trinity’s record of excellence in serving the people of Steubenville and the surrounding region.”

            A native of Michigan, Grimshaw has more than 17 years of health care leadership experience at several prominent systems.  At CHI St. Alexius Health System, he has served in his current capacity since March; however, he has been with CHI St. Alexius, Williston since 2010. During his tenure at CHI St. Alexius Health System, he led the development of a $20 million campus transformation plan; introduced new specialty health services; and introduced a new rural track residency program in partnership with the University of North Dakota to train family practice physicians, among many outstanding accomplishments. Formerly, Grimshaw was executive vice president and administrator at Immanuel St. Joseph’s – Mayo Health System, Mankato, MN; and prior to that held management positions with Alpena Regional Medical Center, Alpena, MI and St. Mary’s of Michigan, Saginaw, MI.

            Grimshaw received a master’s degree in business administration from Wake Forest University and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Grimshaw and his wife, Annette who is an Optometrist, have three children; a son, Joshua (11) and two daughters, Julia (8) and Joelle (4).

Grimshaw is active in numerous civic organizations, including the North Dakota Hospital Association; Williston Regional Economic Development Corporation; Williston Chamber of Commerce; Minnesota Hospital Association; and All Tribes Christian Camp. He also serves on the Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota board of directors and is a member of the New Hope Wesleyan Church.
