Many people wrongly believe that the flu vaccine does not work or has side effects.  Outside of soreness at the site of the injection, the vaccine does not carry any notable side effects.

While the flu vaccine certainly isn’t perfect, last year for example, it was more effective against the flu at the beginning of flu season than it was against April’s flu strains.  It is more important to have partial protection than no protection.

Even if you get the flu after having received the vaccine, you still benefit from having less severe and shorter illness.  You are also less likely to have complications like pneumonia, hospitalization and dying.

WHAT IS CONSIDERED A SEVERE REACTION TO THE FLU VACCINE?
Previous severe reaction to influenza vaccine (e.g., hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of tongue or lips)
Note: The above does not include sensitivity to the vaccine such as mild to moderate local reactions, soreness, redness, itching or swelling at the injection site, and/or slight ill feeling including upper respiratory infection or low-grade or moderate fever following a prior dose of the vaccine.

*** A SEVERE EGG ALLERGY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AS A MEDICAL EXEMPTION AS THE VACCINE IS AN EGG-FREE VACCINE.

Trinity REQUIRES ALL employees, medical staff, contract employees, volunteers and students affiliated with the Health System to receive their flu vaccination.  Participation is mandatory and must be completed by Nov. 15^th.   Please find a date that works for you.
