Trinity Health System Welcomes Dr. James D’Antonio

Steubenville, Ohio–March 24, 2023–Trinity Health System welcomes to its family James D’Antonio, M.D., F.S.C.A.I., R.P.V.I., Interventional Cardiology, Vascular Medicine.

Dr. D’Antonio is familiar with the area, having been born and raised in Pittsburgh with close-knit family roots in Aliquippa, Penn., and fond childhood memories of attending Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers games at Three Rivers Stadium. After graduating from Sewickley Academy in 1989, he enrolled at The University of Colorado at Boulder where he studied molecular biology and biochemistry.

“I liked science, but it was volunteering and working as a unit clerk at Boulder Community Hospital that sparked my interest in medicine as a career,” Dr. D’Antonio said. “Volunteering introduced me to relationships within health care.”

This newfound interest led him to attend medical school at Oregon Health and Science University, School of Medicine, in Portland, Ore. Following medical school, he spent 10 years at a practice in Prescott, Ariz., which he describes as a small city in the high desert.

“Prescott had a similar community closeness as the Tri-State area,” Dr. D’Antonio said. “The town was in need of a dedicated Cardiovascular Specialist.”

It was in Prescott where his practice and skill set grew beyond routine cardiac care to include vascular medicine.

“The heart and blood vessels are all connected and having an appreciation for the entire system, I feel, gives me a stronger understanding of the cardiovascular care that I provide,” he explained.

Dr. D’Antonio said he is thankful to join Trinity Health System, where he will assist in further developing the vascular program as part of the system’s cardiovascular service line. This will include a vein program to care for patients with varicose veins secondary to venous insufficiency, as well as care for arterial disease patients. Wound patients will also be a special focus of this program.

“Trinity Health System is providing an amazing opportunity for program development,” Dr. D’Antonio said. “Our community is currently underserved with respect to vascular care, especially vein care. Vein problems are very common in our population. Vein testing is easy, and excellent minimally invasive treatment options are readily available. Trinity Health System recognizes the benefits of such a program for the community, and I look forward to working together to provide this much-needed service.”

Dr. D’Antonio will be located primarily at the Trinity Health System clinic in East Liverpool, Ohio, 146 West 5th Street, and his secondary location will be at the Toronto, Ohio, clinic, 1800 Franklin Street.

“We are blessed to have Dr. D’Antonio join our cardiovascular team at Trinity Health System,” Kelly Bettem, Director of the Trinity Health System Cardiovascular Service Line, said. “His offices in the East Liverpool and Toronto areas will allow patients in the community to have cardiology services close to home. Dr. D’Antonio is a skilled and experienced interventional cardiologist that we are thrilled to have as part of our team.”

“Much of the care we provide is based on guidelines and evidence-based medicine,” Dr. D’Antonio said. “But for me the most rewarding and meaningful aspect of patient care is based on getting to know your patients and reaching them on a more human level.”

“It is my pleasure and privilege to bring my skill set to Trinity Health System,” he added. “Thank you for the opportunity to provide heart and circulation care for you and your families.”
