Media Round-Up: Farmer’s market serves oncology patients’ nutrition needs at Trinity

Our thanks to everyone who attended our first Fresh Fridays for Health Farmer’s Market last Friday. The Farmer’s Market continues this week, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot of St. John Arena.

The Farmer’s Market is a mission-driven, collaborative effort between THS Clinical Dietitian II Jessica Rea, MS, RDN, LD, and Liz Schriner, Market Director of Mission and Ethics. Trinity Health System has also partnered with It’s All Good Farm and KOLB Orchard to sell fresh fruits, vegetables, and other seasonal products. You can read all about it in this blog post.

Here, too, are some of the media reports on last Friday’s market. Our thanks to these organizations for their coverage.

WTRF: Farmer’s market serves oncology patients’ nutrition needs at Trinity by Colin Roose

…[T]he food was available to anyone who wanted a reset on their diet.

“The genesis came from our cancer patients who when health issues invade a person’s life or part of a person’s life, then lots of other things are really challenging, including getting to a grocery store.” — LIZ SCHRINER, MARKET DIRECTOR FOR MISSION, TRINITY HEALTH SYSTEM

“Every individual person’s needs are different. And so certainly a tailored plan makes the most sense. I certainly would recommend reaching out to a registered dietitian, nutritionist.” — JESSICA REA, CLINICAL DIETITIAN II, TRINITY HEALTH SYSTEM

It’s All Good Farm also sold some of their flowers at the market as well.

Patients were also given gift certificates for the produce there, and even Trinity staff shopped to commit to a healthier 2024.
