River Talk: The road to healing leads to the new Trinity Health System St. Clairsville Neighborhood Hospital by Karen Fatula

Community members, local leaders and health officials gathered Friday morning at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Trinity Health System St. Clairsville Neighborhood Hospital, a facility greatly needed in Belmont County.

The hospital’s opening will be delayed while staff completes further safety and preparedness drills with local agencies. Officials did not confirm an opening date. The hospital’s progress has been impressive, however, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony taking place nearly two years to-the-date of the groundbreaking.

Dwayne Richardson, President of Twin City Medical Center-Dennison and Trinity Health St. Clairsville Hospital, addressed the standing-room only crowd to thank the community for their support and explain the genesis of the idea to bring a new hospital to St. Clairsville.

The Times Leader: Trinity Health System Neighborhood Hospital hosts grand opening in St. C. by Gage Vota

Nearly two years to the date from breaking ground, Trinity Health System’s Neighborhood Hospital hosted its grand opening Friday morning.

The new facility sits along U.S. 40 just east of Plaza West and is a two-story building that offers 10 emergency room beds, six inpatient beds, and radiology and laboratory suites.

Dwayne Richardson, president and CEO of Twin City Medical Center, said that although Friday was its grand opening, the hospital was not quite ready for patients.

“We’re not giving out an opening date just yet, because we need to make sure that we are rightsizing all of our operations,” he said. “We’re making sure that every single patient is safe. And we’re also working with the local agencies that are around us, from having active shooter drills, having the fire department, we’ve had them here at least six times already. We have more events, we have more helicopter scenarios to conduct. Again, trying to open up a new hospital from scratch is one of the hardest things that you can do.

WTOV: Trinity Health System completes new hospital in St. Clairsville by Tanner Mountz

“The difference between driving here or driving across the river could be life or death,” St. Clairsville Mayor Kathryn Thalman said. “You know what they say, time is tissue. And so as soon as they get someone to the hospital, the clock starts. It could be the difference between life and death.”

Despite its small size, the hospital will operate 24/7 with an initial staff of 60 people, and hiring is ongoing. The facility includes six in-patient rooms, two operating rooms, and advanced imaging services. Additionally, the hospital features an always-open emergency room and a helipad for patient transport to higher care when necessary.
