The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to Trinity Health System, Trinity Medical Center West Laboratory, Steubenville Ohio based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs.
The facility’s Director, Himanshu M. Doshi, MD was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the service being provided.  Trinity Health System, Trinity Medical Center West Laboratory is one of more than 7,700 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.
“In addition to the College of American Pathologists, the Trinity Laboratory was also recently recognized and accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB).  Both these organizations have very stringent quality standards which our lab not only meets but exceeds. I want to thank our highly competent Laboratory staff for their tireless work in providing quality laboratory and pathology services to our physicians and the community.  We are proud of the work we do and services that we provide.  Our core principle is to treat every patient sample as if it was from our own family member” stated Dr. Doshi, Chairman and Medical Director of Trinity Medical Center West Laboratory.
Trinity’s President and CEO, Matt Grimshaw, upon learning of the laboratory’s accreditation, said “We are proud to be the only laboratory in the area with both accreditations.”
The US federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.
During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
